Ricky Martin Visits Cambodian Center

Sunday, March 30, 2008

By KER MUNTHIT
SIEM REAP, Cambodia (AP) — Ricky Martin met with victims of sexual exploitation Saturday during a visit to Cambodia to promote the fight against human trafficking.

Martin held infants and listened to a 14-year-old rape victim's song during his visit to a shelter in the northwestern city of Siem Reap, home of the famed Angkor temples.

"She sings like an angel," Martin said after the girl finished a song she composed about the plight of trafficking victims.

The girl was among 65 victims sheltered at the rescue center of Afesip, a French non-governmental group working to combat human trafficking in Cambodia.

The pop star also held the 3-month-old daughter of a 22-year-old woman who was sold by her father to a brothel and is now HIV-positive. The woman broke down in tears as she urged Martin to keep fighting against human trafficking.

"I'm not going to stop," Martin said, pounding his fist on his knee as he sat on a tiled floor. "All of you are my heroes. You are a gift of my life."

Martin, who arrived in the country Wednesday, met with Interior Minister Sar Kheng and visited various projects run by non-governmental organizations fighting child trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Martin learned of Cambodia's child trafficking problems in February during a three-day U.N. conference in Vienna. He joined Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson, Egyptian first lady Suzanne Mubarak and other dignitaries in calling for action.

In its annual human rights report released recently, the U.S. State Department called Cambodia "a source, destination and transit country for men, women, and children trafficked for sexual exploitation and labor."

Still, Martin praised Cambodia as an example of some "solid and concrete" efforts against human trafficking.

"The fact that you have 200 non-governmental groups working in the country working on human trafficking is unheard of," he said.

Martin said he plans to take what he learned in Cambodia and use it to "motivate people, organizations, governments in Latin America" in their efforts to combat the same problems. The Ricky Martin Foundation does most of its work in Latin America.

Martin was due to leave Cambodia on Sunday.

-Thesis report part I

Boa makes record in JP

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

After two weeks ranked in the first position on the japanese musical ranking chart, Boa's new album in Japanese-The face, has dropped down to the third since last week. However, with the majority of Boa's fans, The face is really still a quality album.

Boa
The face has helped Boa make a new record in the musical entertainment field of Japan, because it drives her as one of the two artists who has continuously 6 albums classed in the first position on the hebdomadally japanese musical ranking table.

Previously Japanese diva, Ayumi Hamasai made her record by her 8 albums unremittingly climbed up to the first position of the table. Beside numbers of the new songs valuated exciting , The face also left a number of Boa's live shows in Japan 2007. This album might be the final japanese album before she focuses on her first English album predicted to be released this year in the US market. nhacvietplus/ijajaja

Cold (Common Cold) treatment

The common cold generally involves a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. You may also have a sore throat, cough, headache, or other symptoms. Over 200 viruses can cause a cold.

Symptoms

The three most frequent symptoms of a cold are:
  • Runny nose

  • Nasal congestion

  • Sneezing
Depending on which virus is the culprit, the virus might also produce:
  • Sore throat

  • Cough

  • Muscle aches

  • Headache

  • Postnasal drip

  • Decreased appetite
Treatment
  • Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids. Over-the-counter cold remedies may help ease your symptoms. These won't actually shorten the length of a cold, but can help you feel better.

  • Antibiotics should not be used to treat a common cold. They will not help and may make the situation worse. Thick yellow or green nasal discharge is not a reason for antibiotics, unless it doesn't get better within 10 to 14 days.

  • Chicken soup does indeed help congestion and body aches.

  • Spicy foods that contain hot peppers or horseradish may help clear sinuses.

  • Foods rich in vitamins A and C are always recommended and may be helpful during a respiratory infection. They include oranges, kiwi, and tomatoes for vitamin C, and sweet potatoes, spinach, and broccoli for vitamin A.
Common cold and Vitamin C

Different studies have found that large doses of vitamin C may reduce the duration of a cold. Some precautions against taking high doses of vitamin C include the following :
  • High doses of vitamin C may cause headaches, intestinal and urinary problems, and even kidney stones.

  • Because vitamin C increases iron absorption, people with certain blood disorders, such as hemochromatosis, thalassemia, or sideroblastic anemia, should avoid high doses of this vitamin.

  • Large doses of vitamin C can also interfere with anticoagulant medications ("blood thinners"), blood tests used in diabetes, and stool tests.
